April Workshops Back

With Esther Anderson – Sunday 15th April 10am to 3pm

This is a class for beginners to get you started with simple patchwork techniques. Esther will show you how to cut simple shapes such as strips and squares accurately using a rotary cutter, mat and ruler, and how to piece these pieces accurately to make a variety of blocks with half and quarter square triangles. You will hopefully get three blocks finished at the class and patterns will be provided for additional blocks that you can finish at home. You can make the blocks into a table runner, small quilt or individual cushions. This class is limited to five students.

Friday 20th April  10.30am to 3pm

Project Linus UK is a wonderful charity staffed by volunteers who give quilts and knitted blankets to sick and traumatised babies, children and teenagers.  We would like to support their work in West Lothian with our free Linus quilt days.  These days are completely free, we will supply all the fabrics and wadding etc if you can please provide your time and expertise to make some quilts for Linus UK.  We have some simple quilt patterns such as nine patch and rail fence and we also have sewing machines for you to use, or you can bring your own.  Lets get stitching for Project Linus!

With Hanne Asbey Saturday 21st April 10am to 4pm

Hanne has been teaching free-motion quilting on a home sewing machine for a long time and although it seams a bit scary to start with you will soon find it as easy as drawing or writing with a pencil.  Think of it as doodling and I often use pencil and paper to practise my quilting pattern.  It can be daunting to start quilting on a top that you have spent a lot of time on but it means a lot if you can say you that every stitch on that quilt is yours.  The stitches don’t have to be the same length all the time and with a little bit of practise you will find it a very fun and relaxing thing to do.
Hanne will give you lots of tips for the technique; we will discuss threads, needles, wadding and patterns and you will end up with a sample that you can use as a reference for future projects.  The size of the sample is about 30” square.  The middle of this is a simple type of a feathery pattern and the rest is divided into areas for filling and border patterns.  Class limited to eight students.

With Hanne Asbey Sunday 22nd April 10am to 4pm

This little project is approximately A4 size, it has 2 stylised leaf shapes in an abstract design which gives it a very dramatic appearance. The same design can also be used for bags, table runners etc. The class will cover easy but accurate methods of curved construction, fusible appliqué, how to design your own little master piece, colour schemes, surface finishing and embellishing.  Skill level beginner to intermediate and eight spaces available.
